Patient Information

Communication Needs 

Telephones are available in all patient rooms. Your friends and relatives may call directly to your room by dialing 218-365-80XX (XX is your room number). Your phone number is also included on your patient information board.

Phone Calls

All phone calls can be made from your room free of charge. To dial out, please use the following guidelines or ask someone from your healthcare team for assistance:

  • 7 + 218 if it is a local landline beginning with 365
  • 7 + 218 if it is a local cell phone beginning with 235
  • 7 + 1 + 218 if it is a number still within our area code but outside the Ely area such as Babbitt 827-XXXX
  • 7 + 1 + any other area code + the phone number
No smoking policy

In the interest of the health of our patients, visitors and staff, EBCH prohibits smoking and chewing tobacco on our campus. For the purpose of this guide, “smoking” includes inhaling or exhaling smoke from any lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, or any other lighted tobacco or plant product. “Smoking” also includes carrying a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or any other lighted tobacco or plant product intended for inhalation. “Smoking” also includes using any product that simulates traditional smoking through the inhalation of vapor. Our campus includes all indoor and outdoor areas on EBCH premises, including but not limited to patient rooms, office areas, BWCC Café, break rooms, restrooms, elevators, hallways, outside entrance/exit doors, lawn areas and parking lots.

Electrical equipment

Due to government safety codes, the following items are the only ones you may use in patient rooms:

  • Battery operated shavers
  • Battery operated radios
  • Battery operated clocks
  • Laptop computers and tablets
  • Cell phone chargers
  • Please do not bring any other electrical equipment to the hospital.
Notary Public services are available to patients free of charge upon availability. Contact your nurse for more information.

All patients receive nutritionally balanced meals, and those with special dietary needs are accommodated by our food and nutrition staff.

Meal schedule:

Breakfast – 8:00 a.m.
Lunch – 12:00 p.m.
Supper – 5:30 p.m.

Guest trays for visitors may be ordered by letting your nurse know. A cash payment for meals ordered will be collected upon guest tray delivery.
