2024 Board of Directors

Members of our Board of Directors serve a term of three years and are elected at the annual member meeting held the first Monday in December. The current Board of Directors members are:
Devon was born and raised in Ely and earned her Doctorate of Education through Winona State University. She also attended Lake Superior College and St. Scholastica in Duluth for her Bachelor of Nursing and South University in Georgia to achieve her Master’s in Nursing Education. She is an instructor for the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Mesabi Range College. She is married to her husband, Brady, and has a daughter, Lucy. She is honored to serve the community through the EBCH Foundation.
Tim holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK. He has held many positions in the banking and finance world throughout his career. He spent ten years with Wells Fargo as the Community Banking President and later Certified Financial Planner/Trust Officer until he retired in 2015. Currently, Tim works in a limited capacity with the City of Ely as the Planning and Zoning Administrator. Tim enjoys volunteering in various capacities with the Ely Rotary Club.

Barb is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a B.S. in Physical Education and Sociology. Now retired from her role as Public Service Team Leader with the Superior National Forest (USDA Forest Service), Barb was responsible for recreation, wilderness trails, land purchases and exchanges, special use, heritage resources, and public information programs. Utilizing many of the services offered at EBCH, Barb is aware of what an important asset the hospital is to the future of the communities that we serve. Barb is a proud grandma who enjoys gardening, hiking, reading, and playing golf in her spare time. 

Todd holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Evansville in Indiana. Most recently, working as a Personal Care Assistant for a family member with Multiple Sclerosis, Todd saw firsthand the importance of healthcare in our community. Todd worked as an Investment Advisor and Loan Officer for Frandsen Bank and Trust. Describing himself as an analytical, energetic, and detail-oriented business consultant, Todd brings broad and deep experience to the Board in financial and business leadership. Todd enjoys investing, hiking, traveling, golf and yoga in his spare time. 

Mary Ann was proudly born and raised in Ely and had a 35-year career with Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital. Starting as a Nurse’s Aid and working her way up to the Nurse Manager of Home Health Care, the position she retired from in 2014, Mary Ann enjoyed working at EBCH and currently spends time with her son and his family. Mary Ann has served on many local boards, including the Arrowhead Emergency Medical Services Association and the Range Women’s Advocates Task Force.

John graduated from Hibbing Vocational Technical College with an AA in Law Enforcement. He is currently retired after a distinguished career in law enforcement, serving as a Patrol Officer, Assistant Chief, and Chief of Police. Having served nearly twenty years as the local DARE Officer for ISD 696, John is happy to work on local non-profit boards in his free time. John served on the Ely Community Resources Board for ten years and has been a volunteer instructor for the MN DNR Youth Firearms Safety Program in Ely for forty years. 

Riana is a third-generation “Elyite” who understands the importance of having a local Critical Access Hospital. Currently, the Network Director of the Ely Behavioral Health Network, Riana, has seen first-hand the innovation that can happen within healthcare when organizations collaborate to support their communities. It is with that spirit that she proudly joins the EBCH Board. Riana is excited to help EBCH remain an exemplary employer and the local healthcare leader for the communities we serve.

Stephen is a retired senior loan officer with the Entrepreneur Fund who resides in Babbitt, MN. He brings over twenty years of Board experience with him, including serving on the Laurentian Chamber, Tower EDA, IRRR Technical Advisory, and Miller Dwan Hospital Boards, to name a few. Continuing education is important to Stephen, having completed courses, including Blandin’s Community Leadership Program and Core Four Business Planning. Stephen wants to be part of the EBCH Board because “… I enjoy critical thinking, preparing for the future, not standing still but growing the business/organization, and I like getting involved in all the conversations.” 

Rob is an Ely graduate who holds a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of MN. Since 1997, Rob has worked at United States Steel Corporation as a Project Manager. He brings a vast knowledge of capital projects and equipment acquisitions to the Board. Committed to the Ely community, Rob has served for twenty-five years as the City of Ely Public Works Commissioner. When asked why he wanted to serve on the EBCH Board, Rob replied, “to utilize my experience base to help ensure this valued community asset of EBCH remains a viable component in the Ely area.”
