Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Always striving to provide top-quality care, Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital is proud to offer robotic-assisted surgery for our patients with the da Vinci Surgical System.

The da Vinci Surgical System features advanced surgical technology—highlighted by a laparoscope with a tiny camera and light that sends real-time images to a video monitor—allowing surgeons to perform minimally-invasive general surgical procedures. Whereas in the past, these same general surgical procedures might have been considered major ones, requiring an extended amount of recovery time.

Surgeons can make smaller incisions with the da Vinci Surgical System and operate with advanced precision, magnified vision, and an enhanced range of motion. Most importantly, this advanced surgical technology translates into several patient benefits, including:

  • Significantly faster recovery time
  • Less pain and scarring
  • Lower rates of complications and infections
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Shorter recovery times
  • Better outcomes than traditional surgical procedures

Examples of the different general surgical procedures the da Vinic Surgical system can help perform are:

  • Hernia surgery
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Appendectomies
  • Colon resections

EBCH has partnered with Dr. John Bollins, D.O. of Advanced Surgical Associates of Northern Minnesota, LLC to perform surgeries using the da Vinci Surgical System at EBCH. Highly accomplished working as a trauma critical care surgeon and general surgeon at Duluth hospitals dating back to 2007, he specializes in robotic-assisted surgery and advanced surgical techniques.
